Europe’s largest event for sustainable city development was held in Oslo May 2019—a massive conference for city development, city understanding and urban sustainability. The conference moves around the world every year, and chose Oslo in 2019 because of its status as European green capital. Natural State helped anchor the international global conference in Oslo, so the local identity came to life in a global meeting place. As a part of the Arena Oslo innovation cluster we were to look at how this type of mega event would maximise value in the city. So we worked closely with the service industry, travel/leisure, experience, events, creative- and culture industries, to make the city come alive around the conference and connect it to public funding for activation of the city and in general make a city life engine. Collaborating with all factors it was one of our biggest projects in 2019. We made a report to show the value created and it became the foundation for a research program called experience Oslo, where they look at the extended value picture of any event in the city.
